Birthday Cobia

It’s amazing how people celebrating birthdays have such good luck when fishing. Tim was no exception. He had a live grunt on the bottom when the pole twitched. Tim picked up the rod, wound tight on it and the pole doubled over. I thought it must have been a snag at first but the violent head shakes gave the fish away. Then the big girl bull dogged across the bottom ripping drag. Then it quickly started to rise to the surface and I started hoping, cobia. When it showed itself in the sun, that charge of excitement surged through our bodies that all fishermen live for. Oh boy, there was another giant cobia following it! Ben grabbed a jig pole and casted it perfectly. The second fish turned, charged and swallowed the jig. Two huge cobia on! Justin and I frantically helped the anglers as the fish charged around the boat, over rods, under the anchor rope and by the propeller. Great teamwork and a little birthday luck brought both the fish in the boat. If you are a fisherman, you know the joy that followed.
